Restoring New York, one home at a time.
Brownstone and Limestone restoration specialist.
We offer top quality restoration of Brownstone facades and stoops while adhering to New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission guidelines. Our team is able to reproduce hand carved ornaments and all elaborate stone details to match existing Architectural styles. In addition, we also tuck-point brick facades, repair specialized Bluestone sidewalks and patios.

Brownstone care and maintenance.
Brownstone is a natural soft, sedimentary stone that was formed by build-up layers, which are called grain.
Brownstone should be cut with the grain running horizontally, but often, to save time and money, the stone was cut parallel to the grain, which is incorrect. This causes the stone to loose strength over the years. Brownstone absorbs water from the rain, if water freezes, it causes the stone to expand and flake off.
To prevent damage to these properties the best idea is maintenance. Regular attention to ordinary maintenance and minor repairs will help on the long run.
Keeping drains clean specially at the front patio will prevent flooding to the basement; also the patio should keep water away from the foundation.
Maintain the front stoop, and take special care underneath stoop. Make sure is well ventilated.
Pay attention to the first row of stone below the window sills, they get damaged sooner because of AC units and snow accumulation in winter time.
Keeping things like this in mind and quick repair will prevent a major repair later on.
TESTIMONIALS
Testimonials:
Scott F. TriBeCa, New York.
I contracted J.Mos to do a full restoration of the facade of my 1827 Federal Style house in TriBeCa. The scope of work include replacement or repair of all woodwork, pointing, and masonry, including the Brownstone Lentils, Sills, copings and stairs. I cannot speak highly enough of the quality of the work that was completed. J.Mos was readily available to communicate by phone, text, email or site meetings, and his employees were dedicated artisans. The site conditions were impecably maintained and the work was completed on time. Being a Landmarked house in a historic district one can imagine that there were many "eyeballs" on the project, from nosy neighbors to other tradesmen to Landmark preservationists. The feedback from everyone was "wow".

I cannot fully express how pleased we are with the outcome. The house is exquisite; the carvings are fully restored (carvings were even added in places); it does, in fact, look like the house was recently built and "old world" sculptors carved into the fresh Limestone. The "newer" part of the Limestone matches the 1905 Limestone. The pictures do not do the work justice. To fully appreciate the job one should visit our house and observe its exterior first hand. The job was completed months ago, and neighbors are still studying the job, nothing to us their amazement. We do the same.

I was extremely satisfied with the professional service, reliability and quality of work that I experienced with J.Mos from day one. J.Mos were always reachable. I highly recommend his company for your building's exterior needs. His particular knowledge and experience with Brooklyn Brownstones and Landmark Comission make choosing his company over the competing in the field a no brainer.

First, I want to thank you for restoring my house to what I believe is its original beauty. I recall the first time I saw the house. It was a sad sack indeed, and now I take great pleasure in my home's appearance as I come around the corner on my block.

I have been a builder since 1997 doing almost all phases of construction. In 2010 I was faced with a project I was not familiar with, the art of re-brownstoning my Landmarked Brownstone in Brooklyn. J.Mos of Brownstone Authority came in and gave me an estimate, shook my hand and proceeded with the job. He has lived up to his word in every phase of the project. He is a professional who took his time to give my building an incredible finish. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants a truly perfect job with no nonsense along the way.

I give my highest recommendation to J. Mos and the Brownstone Authority. After dealing with another mason who I fired before the job even began due to lack of confidence. I can say that the level of skill and professionalism of Brownstone Authority is unmatched.

Everyday, you were prompt, trustworthy and thorough. You comunicated clearly throughout the project and your estimates were as good as accurate. All of this translated to a consummate professional. We have honestly never encountered all these qualities in one contractor in all the contractors we have hired since becoming homeowners in 2001. And to think I found you on the Internet. We are no longer the "ugly duckling" of our block, but the princess at the party. Again, thank you so very much for your professionalism and excellent work.
